BALTHVS

Formed in Colombia in 2020, BALTHVS brings together Balthazar Aguirre on guitar and vocals, Johanna Mercuriana on bass and Santiago Lizcano on drums in a trio format that emphasizes rhythmic circulation, instrumental development and highly mobile ensemble playing. BALTHVS positions its music between psychedelic funk, psych rock, Latin grooves, touches of spiritual jazz and melodic lines inspired by Middle Eastern music, with compositions that progress through repetition, subtle variations and measured improvisation. In just a few years, BALTHVS has expanded far beyond the Colombian scene, touring the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania and appearing at events such as SXSW, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, Electric Forest, Lightning in a Bottle, the Montreal Jazz Festival and SXSW Sydney. The trio has also been invited to session and broadcast formats like KEXP, Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Café and the BBC. Across a discography developed since 2020, spanning albums and EPs, BALTHVS has refined a flexible, hypnotic sound centered on bass, guitar and group dynamics.
