Momoko Gill
After a childhood spent between the United States and Japan, Momoko Gill settles in London, where she develops a practice at the crossroads of drums, keyboards, composition, and singing within the local experimental scene. Her path has brought her to appear alongside artists such as Alabaster DePlume, Tirzah, Coby Sey, or Nadeem Din-Gabisi, in contexts where improvisation, hybrid forms and oblique writing occupy a central place. Under her name, Momoko Gill fashions a music that blends spiritual jazz, diffuse trip-hop, minimalist soul, and ambient-adjacent textures, with a pronounced interest in supple rhythms and uncluttered arrangements. Her album Momoko, released in 2024 on Strut, was produced by Matthew Herbert and extends this approach by coexisting discreet percussion, floating melodic lines, and hushed vocals. Momoko Gill thus situates herself in a London landscape where contemporary jazz, slow electronic music, and intimate songwriting meet, with a personal language that favors nuance, space, and the circulation between several musical heritages.
