Ärsenik
Formed in the mid-1990s in the northern suburbs of Paris, in Villiers‑le‑Bel, Ärsenik brings together brothers Gaëlino and Calboni M’Bani, known respectively as Lino and Calbo, who come from a family of Congolese origin. Rooted in French rap, the duo developed a dark, dense style marked by urban narratives, carefully crafted lyrics and a concern for social and political issues. Ärsenik first attracted attention as part of the collective Secteur Ä and on various French hip‑hop compilations, before releasing the album “Quelques gouttes suffisent…” in 1998, which has become a landmark in their discography. This debut established Ärsenik on the late‑1990s rap scene with boom‑bap‑oriented productions and a balance of cutting flows and more introspective passages. In 2002 they followed with “Quelque chose a survécu”, a project that gathers unreleased tracks, songs from side sessions and collaborations, extending the group’s universe. Subsequently Lino and Calbo pursued solo careers while occasionally keeping Ärsenik active on stage and in the studio, maintaining the duo’s presence in the history of francophone rap.
