DJ Rush
Born Isaiah Major in Chicago in 1970, DJ Rush grew up on the South Side and became involved early in the city’s house scene, playing at venues tied to the genre’s rise such as the Music Box, Power House and Warehouse. Around the turn of the 1990s he also began producing and released his first maxi, “Knee Deep,” in 1991, followed by releases on house- and techno-linked labels like Dance Mania, Relief, Force Inc., Djax-Up-Beats and Pro-Jex. His trajectory starts from a very physical house foundation, nourished by funk, disco and soul, and gradually narrows toward a harder, more direct and minimal techno, with a strong sense of groove and percussion. Based in Berlin from 1996, DJ Rush found in the European techno scene a terrain where his style could expand, across club sets, festivals and dancefloor-oriented productions. His discography notably includes the albums Klub Kids, Rush Rules and Doing It To Death, all released in 1996, followed by 97/99 Motherfuckin' Tracks and Shall We Dance? in 2000. He also developed the Kne'Deep label, an extension of work carried out between Chicago and Berlin, and remains associated with a confrontational, hybrid approach to techno rooted in the history of club music.
