Misþyrming
Formed in Reykjavik in 2013 around Dagur Gíslason, Misþyrming has established itself in the Icelandic black metal scene with an approach that is abrasive, dense and highly constructed, where the violence of the playing gives way to clearer melodic lines and a pronounced sense of progression. Initially conceived as a solo project before becoming a band, Misþyrming later gathered, notably Tómas Ísdal, and became part of a network of musicians linked to other Icelandic outfits such as Svartidauði, Naðra or Sinmara. The first album, Söngvar elds og óreiðu, appeared in 2015 and laid the foundations of an Icelandic black metal that is taut and moving, far from a sound that is solely raw or primitive. In 2017, Misþyrming shared with Sinmara the split EP Ivory Stone / Hof, then continued its development with Algleymi in 2019, a broader album in its contrasts and its writing. After several years of touring in Europe and appearances on specialized posters, the band returned in 2022 with Með hamri, also marked by the arrival of drummer Magnús Skúlason. As a quartet, Misþyrming preserves a dark and tense aesthetic, based on spiraling riffs, shifting rhythms and an atmospheric approach that avoids symphonic emphasis.
