Der Weg Einer Freiheit

Formed in Würzburg, Germany in 2009 around Nikita Kamprad and Tobias Jaschinsky, Der Weg Einer Freiheit sits within contemporary black metal that blends extreme intensity, marked melodic lines, and a sensibility close to post-black metal. Initially conceived as a studio project, the group released its first self-titled album in 2009, followed by a newly recorded version in 2010, before the Agonie EP in 2011 and the Unstille album in 2012. After Tobias Jaschinsky left the same year, Nikita Kamprad also took up vocals and became the main face of Der Weg Einer Freiheit, whose writing remained centered on long, tense and atmospheric compositions, carried by fluid guitars, a highly mobile drummer, and lyrics mostly in German. After signing with Season of Mist, Der Weg Einer Freiheit then expanded its format with Stellar in 2015, Finisterre in 2017, the Live in Berlin live album in 2019, Noktvrn in 2021 and Innern in 2025. On stage, the band has toured between clubs and metal festivals in Europe, with appearances notably at Summer Breeze, Hellfest, Graspop and Wacken Open Air, as well as tours alongside bands such as The Ocean, Moonspell, Downfall of Gaia or Heaven Shall Burn. Today organized as a live band around Kamprad, Tobias Schuler and Nicolas Rausch, Der Weg Einer Freiheit develops a dense, melodic and introspective black metal, without recourse to the genre’s most traditional thematic codes.
