Jasmine Not Jafar
Active on the French electronic scene, the duo Jasmine Not Jafar brings together two producers and vocalists who craft techno designed for live performance and aimed at the most physical dancefloors. Rooted in a contemporary club aesthetic, they blend fast techno rhythms, massive bass and chanted vocal lines, echoing a shared sensibility with pop and club artists such as Charli XCX, Cobrah and Coucou Chloé, whose energy and attitude they readily evoke. The group dynamic relies on a complementarity between upfront rhythmic work and more jagged synthetic textures, with a pronounced taste for hard kicks, abrupt breaks and a vocal presence that moves between singing, rap and slogans. Their performances lean toward partying in the broadest sense, with a marked political dimension expressed through feminist discourse and an explicit critique of power relations within electronic scenes. Live, the duo favors intensive techno sets constructed as continuous blocks of sound where voices merge into pads and sequences, aiming less at melodic illustration than at putting bodies and club space under tension.
