Alexander Kowalski
Born in 1978 in Greifswald and raised in Berlin since childhood, Alexander Kowalski developed, at the end of the 1990s, a trajectory tied to the German techno scene, between studio production, live performances and DJ sets. His first public milestones appear at Tresor, where the track The Wide Theatre was released in 1998 under the alias DisX3, before a series of EPs and parallel projects also signed as D_Func or Double X with Torsten Litschko. Kowalski then aligned himself with a Detroit techno revised from Berlin, precise and dense, with sober melodic lines, a steady pulse and elements that occasionally cross into trance without leaving a club framework. This aesthetic is reflected on his albums Echoes (2001), Progress (2002), Response (2003) and Changes (2006), released within the orbit of labels such as Kanzleramt and Tresor. Later, Kowalski continued his activity with new productions and remixes, including Cycles (2018), while remaining active on European techno circuits. His career thus links the formative period of the Berlin scene in the late 1990s to a more enduring practice, centered on functional, hypnotic and melodic writing.
