Blutengel
Founded in Berlin in 1998 around Chris Pohl after Seelenkrank ended, Blutengel develops a dark synthpop nourished by darkwave and futurepop, featuring alternating male and female vocals in German and English. The project initially formed as a band with a variable lineup before stabilizing around Chris Pohl and singer Ulrike Goldmann, who has been involved since the mid-2000s. From Child of Glass (1999) and Seelenschmerz (2001), Blutengel establishes an aesthetic of accessible electronic melodies, crisp rhythms, and lyrics centered on love, death, desire, and Gothic imagination. The group's discography then expands with Angel Dust (2002), Demon Kiss (2004), Labyrinth (2007), Schwarzes Eis (2009), Tränenherz (2011), Monument (2013), Omen (2015), Leitbild (2017), Un:Gott (2019), Erlösung - The Victory of Light (2021) and Un:Sterblich - Our Souls Will Never Die (2023). Blutengel has from its beginnings frequented the major stages of goth and electronic culture in Germany and Europe, notably Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Amphi Festival and Mera Luna, while evolving its writing toward a darker pop that is more direct without abandoning its melancholic and theatrical grounding.
