VNV Nation
Formed in the early 1990s in London, VNV Nation is an electronic project that brings together Irish musician Ronan Harris, the project’s originator, and English drummer Mark Jackson—first on stage and later in the studio—around a blend of futurepop, EBM, melodic synthpop, and industrial influences. After relocating to Germany, Ronan Harris developed with VNV Nation a songwriting approach centered on themes of futurism, existential inquiry, technology, and spirituality, carried by clear vocal lines and rhythm work geared toward the alternative dancefloor. Following a debut album, "Advance and Follow" (1995), the project came into its own with "Praise the Fallen" (1998) and then "Empires" (1999), which anchored VNV Nation within the European and North American electronic and goth scenes. Subsequent releases, from "Futureperfect" (2002) to "Automatic" (2011) and "Transnational" (2013), extended this fusion of accessible electronic structures and darker textures. VNV Nation also explored an orchestral side with "Resonance" (2015) before returning to an electronic vein on "Noire" (2018) and then "Electric Sun" (2023), while maintaining a steady presence on tour and at festivals.
