Diary Of Dreams

Founded in Düsseldorf in 1989 around Adrian Hates, Diary Of Dreams first established itself in German dark wave before evolving its writing into a tighter electronic rock, threaded with elements of future pop, dark synthetic textures and a very central deep vocal. Initially conceived as a studio project with guitarist Alistair Kane, Diary Of Dreams took a lasting place in European gothic and electro scenes from the 1990s, with a first album Cholymelan released in 1994, followed by End of Flowers in 1996, Bird Without Wings in 1997 and Psychoma? in 1998. Over the 2000s, the group expanded its lineup and hardened its approach, notably on One of 18 Angels in 2000, Freak Perfume in 2002 and Nigredo in 2004, where the rhythmic dimension and rock arrangements became more prominent. Adrian Hates remains the creative nucleus of Diary Of Dreams, surrounded at various times by musicians such as Gaun:A, Torben Wendt or, more recently, Hilger Tintel, Dejan Nikolic and Felix Wunderer. The discography continues with Nekrolog 43 in 2007, (if) in 2009, Ego:X in 2011, Elegies in Darkness in 2014, Grau im Licht in 2015, Hell in Eden in 2017 and Melancholin in 2023, while The Anatomy of Silence in 2012 offers acoustic re-workings and Under a timeless spell in 2024 orchestral versions with the Leipzig Philharmonie.
