Diorama
Launched in Germany in 1996 around the singer, keyboardist and composer Torben Wendt, Diorama initially sits in a darkwave and electropop vein before gradually broadening its spectrum toward electronic rock and forms close to the EBM. The project becomes a fully fledged band with the arrival of Felix Marc in 2000, followed by other musicians over the years, an evolution that accompanies a broader sound, blending melodic synth lines, marked rhythms, guitars and vocals that are both restrained and tense. Diorama released its first album, Pale, in 1999, followed by Her Liquid Arms in 2001 and The Art of Creating Confusing Spirits in 2002, which establish its aesthetic anchors on the German electronic scene. After Amaroid in 2005 and A Different Life in 2007, Diorama continued with Cubed in 2010, Even the Devil Doesn’t Care in 2013, Zero Soldier Army in 2016, Tiny Missing Fragments in 2020 and Fast Advance Fast Reverse in 2022. Associated with the Accession Records label, Diorama has also toured on dark electro, synthpop and alternative stages, notably alongside Diary of Dreams or VNV Nation. Diorama’s music remains tied to a balance between dark atmospheres, pop songwriting and electronic tension, with tracks alternating between dance-friendly formats and more introspective passages.
