Big Cyc

Since its inception in 1988, Big Cyc has developed a Polish rock that blends punk rock, ska, hard rock and pastiche; the group now performs as a quintet. Initially part of the late-1980s student and alternative scene, they soon secured a lasting place in Poland’s musical landscape with satirical lyrics addressing public life, the media, social change and politics. Their debut album Z partyjnym pozdrowieniem. 12 hitów w stylu lambada hardcore (1990) immediately established this ironic stance, which continued on Nie wierzcie elektrykom (1991), Miłość, muzyka, mordobicie (1992) and Wojna plemników (1993). Over the years Big Cyc broadened its range without abandoning a direct, biting style, as on Z gitarą wśród zwierząt (1996), featuring Jarosław Janiszewski of Bielizna, and later on Moherowe Berety (2006), Zadzwońcie po milicję (2011), Czarne Słońce Narodu (2016), Przystanek wolność (2022), Wolność słowa na kartonie (2023) and Manifesto (2024). Around Krzysztof Skiba, Jacek Jędrzejak, Jarosław Lis, Roman Lechowicz and Piotr Sztajdel, Big Cyc maintains an aesthetic of incisive, rhythmic and often sarcastic rock.
