One Step Closer

Hailing from the Wilkes-Barre hardcore scene in Pennsylvania, One Step Closer continues the North American melodic hardcore tradition while adding a more introspective angle. Formed in the mid-2010s, the band drew attention with a string of demos and EPs before releasing “From Me to You” in 2019 and the album “This Place You Know” in 2021 on Run For Cover Records. Their sound pairs the urgency of hardcore punk with pronounced melodic lines and tense vocals, often supported by collective gang vocals. One Step Closer’s music rests on fast tempos, bright guitars and lyrics focused on doubt, memory and personal relationships—close to emo hardcore while retaining the genre’s frontal energy. With “Songs for the Willow” in 2023 the band continued this evolution, slightly widening its palette toward more atmospheric textures while remaining rooted in the DIY scene, between tours in independent venues and appearances at hardcore festivals across the US and Europe.
