Spite House
Formed in Montreal around the singer and guitarist Max Lajoie, Spite House takes shape in 2019 in a personal context marked by mourning, quickly joined by drummer Marc Tremblay and then by bassist Nabil Ortega. The band evolves at the crossroads of emo, melodic punk and post-hardcore, with tense, direct writing anchored in a North American tradition that recalls certain 1990s groups while remaining linked to current hardcore scenes. Spite House released its first self-titled album in 2022, where already nervous tracks, abrasive guitars and a charged vocal delivery settle in without tipping into affectation. The trio continues with Desertion in 2024, a tighter record that deepens this approach by blending rhythmic intensity, rough melodies and autobiographical lyrics. Present in the DIY circuit and on Canadian punk and emo stages, Spite House develops compact, frontal and emotional music, driven by a group dynamic that prioritizes collective momentum as much as the precision of the compositions.
