Basshunter
Born in Halmstad, Sweden, Jonas Altberg develops a project under the name Basshunter that sits between eurodance, hard dance and electronic pop, characterized by very direct melodic lines, prominent bass and alternating use of Swedish and English. Basshunter began producing in the early 2000s and initially circulated his work online, notably within gaming and chat communities, before moving from local Swedish stages to wider exposure in 2006 with “Boten Anna” and then “Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA”, two tracks that anchored his world in an internet culture that was still underrepresented in European pop. His studio discography includes The Bassmachine (2004), LOL (2006), Now You’re Gone – The Album (2008), Bass Generation (2009) and Calling Time (2013). The shift to English-language material, begun with “Now You’re Gone” in connection with DJ Mental Theo’s Bazzheadz, broadened his audience beyond Scandinavia. Since the 2010s Basshunter has mainly worked as a DJ, producer and songwriter, releasing singles such as “Masterpiece” (2018), “Home” (2019), “Angels Ain’t Listening” (2020), “End the Lies” with Alien Cut (2022) and “Ingen kan slå (Boten Anna)” with Victor Leksell (2023).
