Craig David
Born in 1981 in Southampton, England, Craig David first came to prominence on the UK garage scene in the late 1990s, notably thanks to the track 'Re-Rewind' with Artful Dodger. Positioned between R&B, urban pop and garage, his style relies on a flexible vocal delivery, melodies focused on relationships, everyday life and club culture, and a strong narrative sense in the lyrics. His debut album 'Born to Do It' (2000) established this aesthetic, followed by 'Slicker Than Your Average' (2002) and 'The Story Goes...' (2005), which sustained the balance between club-oriented productions and R&B ballads. He then explored a more pop- and soul-oriented register with 'Trust Me' (2007) and the covers album 'Signed Sealed Delivered' (2010). From the mid-2010s, the TS5 project — combining DJ sets, singing and MCing — restored Craig David to a central place on club stages and festival bills, alongside the albums 'Following My Intuition' (2016) and 'The Time Is Now' (2018), where he reconnected with garage and contemporary R&B sounds. The album '22' (2022) confirms the trajectory of an artist navigating between the heritage of British garage, radio pop and collaborations with the grime and UK rap scenes, while keeping Craig David's voice at the core of his musical identity.
