Mýa
Trained in dance from an early age in Washington D.C., Mýa Marie Harrison turned in the late 1990s to contemporary R&B and urban pop, blending singing, choreography and hip-hop culture. Mýa’s debut album, 'Mya' (1998), established her on the American R&B scene thanks to slow-jam–oriented tracks and collaborations with artists like Sisqó, as well as contributions to collective rap and R&B songs. With 'Fear of Flying' (2000) and 'Moodring' (2003), she refined a style that moved between melodic R&B, hip-hop soul influences and more direct pop hooks, alternating ballads and more rhythm-driven songs aimed at radio and the club. From 'Liberation' (2007), and then 'Sugar & Spice' (2008) and 'K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple)' (2011), Mýa shifted toward a more independent approach with her label Planet 9, which allowed her to explore a broader palette—from sensual R&B to mid-tempo tracks tinged with reggae or synth-pop. The albums 'Smoove Jones' (2016) and 'TKO (The Knock Out)' (2018) continued this trajectory, with writing centered on romantic relationships, intimacy and nightlife. Alongside her discography, Mýa developed an acting and stage-performance career, placing her path at the crossroads of music, dance and film.
