Gabrielle
Born in Hackney, east London, and real name Louisa Gabriella Bobb, Gabrielle rose to prominence in the early 1990s with direct songwriting and a supple voice that blends R&B, pop and soul within a style firmly rooted in British song. After singing in London clubs, she broke through in 1993 with the single “Dreams,” and established herself on the English pop‑soul scene with Find Your Way (1993) and Gabrielle (1996), propelled notably by “Give Me a Little More Time” and the duet “If You Ever” with East 17. Her repertoire then shifted toward a broader, more mature soul‑pop on Rise (1999), which includes the title track “Rise,” and with “Out of Reach,” recorded for the Bridget Jones’s Diary soundtrack in 2001. Gabrielle followed with Play to Win (2004) and Always (2007), before taking a multi‑year hiatus. She returned with Under My Skin (2018), then Do It Again (2021) and A Place in Your Heart (2024). Across her career she has maintained a clear line—soul ballads, melodic pop and restrained R&B rhythms—with occasional collaborations such as with Paul Weller, without straying from that register.
