Jay Wheeler

Born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, José Ángel López Martínez first develops his relationship with music in church before relaunching singing in the mid-2010s, after a video published in 2016 went viral. Under the name Jay Wheeler, he enters the Latin urban landscape with a blend of melodic reggaeton, Latin pop, trap, and R&B, carried by sentimental writing and a flexible interpretation, often oriented toward ballads. His progression accelerates when he joins Dynamic Records and then works with DJ Nelson, who accompanies his initial major projects. Jay Wheeler thus releases Platónico in 2019, then Platónicos in 2020, two albums that establish a register focused on romantic tracks and urban rhythms. La Curiosidad, with Myke Towers, marks a turning point in this phase, while his collaborations with artists such as Farruko, Feid, J Balvin, Mora, Prince Royce or Nicky Jam show his movement between reggaeton, Latin trap, and more pop formats. Subsequently, Jay Wheeler further broadens his palette with De Mí Para Ti and El Amor y Yo in 2022, then Emociones in the same year, Emociones 1.5 in 2023, Trappii in 2023 and Música Buena Para Días Malos in 2024, alternating introspective songs, sharper productions and titles that cross between the Puerto Rican urban scene and contemporary Latin pop.
