Mads Langer
Born in Aabenraa, Denmark in 1984 and raised in Skive, Mads Langer emerged from the mid-2000s with a singer-songwriter style that blends pop, rock and acoustic ballads in a frequently melancholic register carried by guitar and piano. Trained early on the piano and having attended the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, he released his first album, Attention Please, in 2006 and refined his direction with the self-titled Mads Langer in 2009, after periods spent between Copenhagen, New York and London and a series of very stripped-down concerts across Europe. His repertoire alternates intimate songs, more taut pop-rock and compositions of restrained lyricism, with a clear focus on melodies and contrasts between softness and intensity. His cover of Olive’s “You’re Not Alone” then broadened his audience in Europe, notably in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Italy. Around the same time he collaborated with Tim Christensen, Justin Hawkins and Mike Sheridan, had several tracks placed in the series The Vampire Diaries, performed at Eurosonic and released Behold in 2011. Since the start of his career, Mads Langer has developed a stage format that ranges from solo acoustic performances to full band accompaniment.
