Earth Tongue

Formed in Wellington, New Zealand, in the mid-2010s, Earth Tongue brings together guitarist and singer Gussie Larkin and drummer-vocalist Ezra Simons to deliver heavy psychedelic rock driven by saturated riffs and an energy indebted to garage and fuzz rock. The duo occupies an independent scene where heavy psych influences, touches of doom and direct, hook‑driven melodies intersect; their often-short songs are built around repetitive motifs and pronounced dynamic shifts. After the EP Portable Shrine (2018), Earth Tongue released the album Floating Being in 2019, which established the band on club and alternative festival stages in Aotearoa / New Zealand and beyond. In 2024, the album Great Haunting extends this aesthetic by heightening darker atmospheres and nods to science fiction and genre cinema. Through regular touring, carefully crafted visuals and highly coded music videos, Earth Tongue has developed a coherent identity within contemporary psychedelic rock.
