Allie X

Between Ontario and Los Angeles, Allie X shapes a pop project where introspective songwriting, conceptual imagery, and electronic textures converge. Born Alexandra Ashley Hughes in Oakville, she first made her mark on Toronto’s indie scene and in musical theatre as Allie Hughes, gradually moving toward a blend of synth-pop, art pop, and dark pop defined by dense electronic layers and direct melodies. After settling in Los Angeles in the early 2010s, Allie X drew attention with the 2014 single “Catch,” which paved the way for the EP “CollXtion I” (2015) and the album “CollXtion II” (2017). The run continued with “Super Sunset” in 2018, where she refined a world centered on the notion of aliases and the distance between public persona and private life, before exploring darker, more narrative moods on “Cape God” in 2020. Alongside her own releases, Allie X co-writes for other international pop artists, notably Troye Sivan, while developing a stage aesthetic in which visual craft, stylized silhouettes, and a theatrical approach extend the identity-driven and emotional themes of her music, culminating in the 2024 album “Girl With No Face.”
