Info
Joy Oladokun brings her genre-blurring songwriting to Band on the Wall in Manchester on April 13, 2027, with a set built around intimacy, sharp storytelling, and a voice that slips easily between folk, Americana, pop and R&B. A queer Black artist and the daughter of Nigerian immigrants, she writes with a calm, direct honesty about identity, faith, mental health and the way politics leaks into everyday life.
This show sits in the orbit of Hope Is A Heavy Thing, a 12-track chapter that widens her palette without losing the stripped-back emotional core she’s known for, with production shaped by Oladokun herself and connections to Nigerian sounds. Since her breakout run in 2020, she’s kept expanding her audience through records that balance quiet introspection with social clarity, and through collaborations reaching from Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile to Noah Kahan and Maxo Kream. Expect something song-first, warm, and unforced, where the lyrics do most of the work.
