On February 20, 2027, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht will host three bands, each pushing the boundaries of heavy music in its own way. Enslaved have carried the Norwegian black metal heritage since 1991, but refuse to be limited to a single form. Expect a set where gritty riffs and double vocal lines meet with long, progressive build-ups, psychedelic textures, and that characteristic Viking atmosphere evident since the early records. Sólstafir, hailing from Iceland, move effortlessly from the fringes of black metal into post-metal and atmospheric rock. Live, the emphasis is on slow-building tension, hazy guitars, and songs that unfold at their own pace, with a landscape-like undercurrent. Gaahls Wyrd, formed in Bergen around Gaahl, brings a darker and more ritualistic kind of black metal. Between shifting tempos, theatrical vocals, and contemplative passages, the focus remains on atmosphere and tension, as if each track slowly unfolds in the hall.
