What the World Needs Now: the Burt Bacharach Songbook brings together Rumer and Ed Harcourt at Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on 7 October 2026. Rumer has long kept a close line to Bacharach and David’s catalogue: after an early EP devoted to his tunes, she recorded This Girl’s in Love in 2016, a full album of their songs produced with Rob Shirakbari. Her warm, unhurried phrasing and a taste for soft-focus orchestral pop make her a natural guide through Walk On By, The Look of Love or Anyone Who Had a Heart.
Opposite her, Ed Harcourt brings a different grain: piano at the core, chamber pop instincts, and a writing style that leans on mood and melody without fuss. From his Mercury-nominated debut to recent albums, he has shaped arrangements that balance intimacy and lift, a good match for Bacharach’s elegant turns and rhythmic swerves. Together, they revisit a songbook that has slipped into everyday memory – think I Say a Little Prayer or Alfie – with voices and arrangements that favour clarity, space and the song itself.
