Info

Barkanan are Ianis and Léo, two brothers who are singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, whose folk summons both the intimate and the wide open spaces. To better envelop Ianis’s high, perched voice, Léo brings in the guitar, piano and drums like reassuring friends, with subtlety.

They borrow the name Barkanan from one of their distant ancestors and formed a musical duo in 2021. Although they first released a self-produced collection of songs, it was in the autumn of 2024 that their true debut EP, “La traversée,” appeared, mixed by Clément Roussel (November Ultra, Voyou, Pépite...) and mastered by Alex Gopher.

A symbol of movement and progress, the idea of a crossing transcends the mind. It is a leap into the unknown, into discovery: crossing time, difficulties, emotions — one’s own and those of others. Not remaining static, passing through things to grasp their complexity. Living the crossing as a constructive process.

On stage, one holds their breath before daring to applaud at the end of the songs, for fear of breaking the spell. Their two voices, one deep and the other high, blend in a natural fraternity. It is the striking hallmark of their present-day folk.

Barkanan will perform at La Maroquinerie on 17 March 2027 at 6:30 PM.
