Barkanan

Led by brothers Ianis and Léo, Barkanan is a folk project based in France built around intimate songwriting and stripped-down acoustic textures. Barkanan rests on Ianis’s clear, high voice placed at the center of songs crafted like small narrative scenes, while Léo develops arrangements in which piano, guitar and drums converse with restraint and precision. As singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, Ianis and Léo conceive their pieces as calm spaces where dynamics are contained and playing nuances take precedence over display. With a first five-track EP, Barkanan establishes a folk rooted in everyday emotions, the perception of time and contemporary vulnerabilities, favoring short forms and understated production. On stage, Barkanan translates this aesthetic into a compact lineup, maintaining a pronounced closeness with the audience and a particular attention to silences, breathing and sonic detail.
