Tonight the future of Drum’n’Bass and adjoining fields of bass music is being negotiated. This is where a generation of producers meets—artists who view bass music not as a fixed style but as an open playground, taking listeners on intense journeys through tension, atmosphere and energy in their sets.

One name among those shaping the future of bass music is Jonathan Kievit from Rotterdam, with his IMANU project, which he began at the end of 2019. Initially working under the pseudonym Signal, he made waves with a technically accomplished, brutalist Drum’n’Bass style and now, as IMANU, shows how to break out of a genre without abandoning it. Between fragile electronica, orchestral power and experimental sound design, everything is possible for him. His debut album Unfold combines Drum’n’Bass, Future Bass and glitch-pop sounds with lush textures, playful melodies and vocals. With releases on labels such as VISION, Heaven Sent, UKF and mau5trap, remixes for Apashe, TOKiMONSTA and What So Not, and collaborations with Sleepnet, Mefjus and Buunshin, he has torn open genre compartments and recombined their contents into something new.

Another prominent representative of this generation is Glasgow-born, UK-based DJ and producer KAVARI. Her new EP Plague Music was released on XL Recordings in February. The EP fuses Drum’n’Bass, Dubstep and noise into an intense sonic world where heavy breaks, distorted textures and experimental noise elements create an atmosphere of euphoric unrest. It’s radical sound design that perfectly balances danceable energy with experimental approaches, making it thoroughly club-ready.

Italian-born, Berlin-based producer Fabrizio Carlini is carving a path with his COIDO project through heavy bass, Drum’n’Bass, technoid sounds, global grooves and UK-garage hybrids. His releases have appeared on labels such as YUKU, Vision, Nerve Collect, TwTw London and Exit, and have found their way into the record bags of artists like Jamie xx, Ivy Lab and D Bridge. His most recent EP, Junction (2025), released on Ingram—the new label from Rinse—reveals a taste for raw UK-garage sound and fragmented bass energy that hits hard.

VILIFY laid a solid foundation as the founder and resident of one of Canada’s longest-running and most productive bass-music nights (Bass Drive Wednesdays) before moving to Berlin in 2014. As a DJ and producer with four albums to her name, along with numerous singles and EPs, she consistently delivers a varied mix of bass, jungle, experimental electronica, grime, jazz, Drum’n’Bass, hip-hop and more.

Yunis resists easy categorization for good reason: from surprising trap beats to powerful juke and grime tracks built on half-step rhythms that can be both hard and groovy, the beatmaker and producer explores a wide stylistic range. Yunis’s sound is dynamic and complex—decidedly made for the dancefloor and sparking the imagination.

In Box2, the Bassim Crew powered by Drums@Work provides even more bass.

This night carries a clear message: bass music knows no boundaries and genres are merely constructs—tear them down, rebuild, keep going.
