Napalm Death, formed in Birmingham in 1981, helped shape grindcore with a collision of blast beats, death metal weight and hardcore urgency. From Scum and its 1.3-second jolt You Suffer to milestones like Harmony Corruption and Utopia Banished, through to recent releases Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism and Resentment Is Always Seismic, the band keeps pushing without losing its edge. Since 1989, vocalist Barney Greenway has steered their blend of political awareness, social critique and onstage intensity.
Primitive Man join as special guests with a slow, heavy take on extremity: low-tuned riffs, cavernous tones and a lingering sense of dread. Their set draws out the glacial side of heavy music, a stark counterpoint to Napalm Death’s velocity.
