Manic Street Preachers and Suede bring two distinct takes on British guitar music to Co-op Live, Manchester, on 31 October 2026. Manic Street Preachers, formed in Blackwood in 1986, grew from punk and glam roots into a sharp, melodic and politically minded strain of alternative rock. With James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore at the core, the band set its template on Generation Terrorists, Gold Against the Soul and The Holy Bible, then widened the scope with Everything Must Go and This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. Later chapters moved between protest and introspection on records like Know Your Enemy, Journal for Plague Lovers, The Ultra Vivid Lament and Critical Thinking. On stage, their mix of tensile guitars and big choruses hits with a clear, focused energy.
Suede helped shape the early 90s with a glam-tinged, dramatic vision of britpop. Led by Brett Anderson, the group forged a sound of wiry guitars and dark romance, from the self-titled debut to the brooding Dog Man Star. After Coming Up pushed a brighter pop streak, Suede paused, then returned with Bloodsports and a run of more introspective albums, from Night Thoughts to Autofiction, that sharpened their raw edge. Live, they lean into theatrical tension and physical performance, driven by Anderson’s distinctive voice.
