Spanish Love Songs

Born in Los Angeles in 2013, Spanish Love Songs operates in a register somewhere between punk rock, emo, pop-punk and indie rock, with a direct and melodic songwriting carried by Dylan Slocum's voice. Formed around Slocum, Ruben Duarte and Gabe Mayeshiro, then expanded with Kyle McAulay before becoming a quintet with the arrival of Meredith Van Woert and Trevor Dietrich, the band develops a tense yet accessible sound, where wiry guitars, dense choruses and keyboards more present over time accompany lyrics marked by social weariness, anxiety and the American daily grind. Spanish Love Songs released their discography with Giant Sings the Blues in 2015, reissued the following year, then refined their identity on Schmaltz in 2018. The band then gained visibility on American punk and alternative scenes, touring notably with The Flatliners, Good Riddance, The Menzingers or The Wonder Years. With Brave Faces Everyone in 2020, Spanish Love Songs further tightened their formula between punk urgency and a broader melodic sense, before offering a more atmospheric reinterpretation on Brave Faces, Etc. in 2022. No Joy, released in 2023, extends this evolution with a fuller production while staying true to the band's emo-punk foundations.
