Cari Cari

Led by Stephanie Widmer and Alexander Koeck, Cari Cari took shape in Austria in the early 2010s before settling in Vienna. The duo crafts a sound that sits between indie rock, spare blues, psychedelic pop and surf touches, with songs often built on stripped-down rhythms, taut guitars and a voice with restrained phrasing. After several mid‑decade releases, Cari Cari issued their debut album Anaana in 2018, which established the foundations of this sober, nervy aesthetic, followed by Welcome to Kookoo Island in 2022, where the band broadened its palette while keeping a pronounced taste for contrasts between calm melodies, rhythmic tension and rougher textures. Active on club and festival stages across Europe, Cari Cari occupies an alternative landscape where indie rock, dark folk and minimalist psychedelia intersect. The band’s identity also rests on the complementarity of Stephanie Widmer and Alexander Koeck, who keep the project tight, direct and uncluttered.
