Black Sea Dahu
Born in Zurich, the Black Sea Dahu project is built around Swiss singer-songwriter Janine Cathrein, who brings together a core of close musicians in a flexible formation that sits between a band and a collective. Rooted in an indie-folk vein with acoustic and occasionally Americana inflections, Black Sea Dahu develops slow, detailed songs carried by a deep voice and restrained arrangements of guitars, strings and percussion. After an initial period under the name Josh, the project took its current shape with the 2018 album “White Creatures,” which established a melancholic folk signature centered on songwriting and vocal harmonies. The same year the EP “No Fire In The Sand” extended this world in a more compact format. In 2022 Black Sea Dahu released “I Am My Mother,” an album that broadens the sonic palette toward more electric textures and more expansive song structures while retaining an intimate songwriting aesthetic. On stage, Black Sea Dahu performs mainly across Europe in independent venues and festivals, presenting songs in variable lineups—from stripped-down sets to expanded formations.
