U.D.O.

Founded in Solingen, Germany, around singer Udo Dirkschneider after his departure from Accept in 1987, U.D.O. is part of the tradition of German heavy metal with a direct, massive sound centered on riffs, carried by Dirkschneider's instantly recognizable voice. After a first cycle of albums including Animal House (1987), Mean Machine (1989), Faceless World (1990) and Timebomb (1991), the band paused in the early 1990s before resuming activity in 1996. Since then, U.D.O. has maintained a steady pace between recordings and touring, with discs such as Solid (1997), Holy (1999), Thunderball (2004), Steelhammer (2013), Steelfactory (2018), We Are One (2020), conceived with the German military orchestra Das Musikkorps der Bundeswehr, Game Over (2021) and Touchdown (2023). U.D.O.'s aesthetic remains anchored in classic heavy metal, between muscular mid-tempo sections, sharper accelerations and sober refrains, with a few occasional deviations in arrangements without changing course. Several former Accept members have crossed the band's history, notably Peter Baltes, officially on bass since 2023, alongside Sven Dirkschneider, Dee Dammers and Alen Brentini. U.D.O. has for years toured between rock venues, metal festivals and international tours, in a rare continuity for a formation born in the late 1980s.
