Active in the Swedish independent pop scene, musician and producer waterbaby has been developing since the early 2020s an intimate songwriting approach that blends contemporary R&B, electronic pop and experimental influences. Based in Stockholm, waterbaby constructs tracks centered on the voice, often in subtle layers, which she places amid fluid synthetic textures, slowed rhythms and melancholic melodies. Her early releases under the name waterbaby establish a universe where song structures remain present but unfold into more floating forms, close to dream pop and ambient pop, with a marked attention to silences and sonic details. waterbaby’s production is deliberately sparse, favoring variations of timbre and dynamics over spectacular effects, situating the project within a lineage of Scandinavian alternative pop that is both digital and deeply personal.
