Dorothy
Led by Hungarian-American singer Dorothy Martin and based in Los Angeles, the rock band Dorothy occupies a space between hard rock, blues rock and alternative rock, with a sound defined by direct riffs, gritty vocals and song structures focused on efficiency. Formed in the mid-2010s around Martin and a core group of musicians from the Californian scene, Dorothy drew attention with a self-titled EP in 2014 and then built a presence playing clubs and indie stages, notably at SXSW 2015. The debut album “ROCKISDEAD” (2016) established the band’s identity—combining classic rock energy with contemporary touches—while “28 Days in the Valley” (2018), produced in collaboration with songwriter-producer Linda Perry, explored a more melodic side, tinged with ’70s rock, soul and light psychedelia. With “Gifts from the Holy Ghost” (2022), Dorothy blends blues-tinged hard rock with more introspective, sometimes spiritual themes, without abandoning the frontal immediacy of its songwriting. Across these releases, Dorothy retains a guitar-driven rock core while evolving its arrangements and atmospheres in dialogue with the American alternative scene.
