Black M
Originating from the Paris rap scene, Black M, whose real name is Alpha Diallo, was born in 1984 in Paris to a family of Guinean origin and first became known as part of the collective Sexion d'Assaut, active from the mid-2000s. With Sexion d'Assaut, Black M contributed to the rise of a French rap that mixed introspective writing, sung choruses and references to neighborhood life, before launching his solo career. In 2014 the album 'Les yeux plus gros que le monde' was released, in which Black M established a style between rap, urban pop and chanson, alternating narrative tracks and lighter songs. He continued this trajectory with 'Éternel insatisfait' in 2016, which deepened a personal register around identity, family and success, and then with 'Il était une fois...' in 2019, marked by an increased emphasis on melodies and formats closer to contemporary popular music. Black M's lyrics remain focused on biographical narrative, social observation and nods to his West African origins, while his collaborations from French rap and urban music have broadened his presence on hip-hop and mainstream stages.
