Soprano
Born in Marseille in 1979 to a family of Comorian origin, Soprano—whose real name is Saïd M’Roumbaba—first made his mark on the rap scene of Marseille’s northern districts with the group Psy 4 de la Rime, active from the late 1990s and known for a collective rap rooted in everyday life in Marseille. With Psy 4 de la Rime, Soprano took part in several albums, including "Block Party" (2002) and "Enfants de la Lune" (2005), before developing a solo path in parallel. His first album, "Puisqu’il faut vivre" (2007), established a style blending introspective rap, sung choruses, and R&B influences—a palette Soprano would steer toward a more pop-rap form across records such as "La Colombe" (2010), "Le Corbeau" (2011), and "Cosmopolitanie" (2014). With "L’Everest" (2016), then "Phoenix" (2018) and "Chasseur d’étoiles" (2021), Soprano emphasized more melodic, accessible sonorities, incorporating touches of variété-style pop and contemporary urban music while retaining recurring themes around family, social ascent, and identity. A regular on major Francophone stages, Soprano collaborates widely with French rap and pop artists and also serves as a coach on the French edition of The Voice, extending beyond the studio a presence already well established in the Francophone musical landscape.
