Otha
Behind Otha is Othalie, a musician born and raised on Norway’s west coast whose project first took shape through a long-distance collaboration with Tyler, based in Vancouver and now her husband. Emerging in the late 2010s with the self-released singles “I’m On Top” and “One Of The Girls,” Otha quickly established a songwriting approach between electronic pop and club music, with a marked taste for Scandinavian synth-pop, disco-tinged lines, new wave accents and more diffuse textures that at times recall shoegaze. These early tracks circulated Otha’s name through the independent music press, including Pitchfork, Gorilla vs Bear, The Sunday Times and The Guardian. Across her releases, Otha has maintained this way of blending intimate tension with a dancing pulse, favoring clear melodies, understated choruses and production that stays direct without seeking excess. Otha’s trajectory thus sits within an independent electronic pop scene where club energy serves introspection as much as movement.
