Switchfoot

Formed in San Diego in 1996 around Jon Foreman, Tim Foreman, and Chad Butler, Switchfoot occupies an alternative rock vein shaped by the post-grunge legacy and the American Christian rock scene. Initially signed to the independent label re:think, Switchfoot released The Legend of Chin in 1997, followed by New Way to Be Human in 1999 and Learning to Breathe in 2000, laying the foundations for a sound that blends melodic guitars, pop-rock choruses, and introspective lyrics. The arrival of Jerome Fontamillas in 2000 and later Drew Shirley in 2005 strengthened the guitar/keyboard dimension and enabled the band to broaden its palette, ranging from atmospheric ballads to more abrasive tracks. With The Beautiful Letdown in 2003, Nothing Is Sound in 2005, and Oh! Gravity. in 2006, Switchfoot established itself on mainstream rock stages while remaining present in specialized circuits. Subsequent albums, from Hello Hurricane (2009) to interrobang (2021), including Vice Verses (2011), Fading West (2014), Where the Light Shines Through (2016), and Native Tongue (2019), continued this mix of melodic rock, energetic pop, and spiritual questioning, supported by extensive touring in North America and internationally.
