Lifehouse
Formed in Los Angeles in the mid-1990s around singer-songwriter Jason Wade, first under the name Blyss and later as Lifehouse, the band belongs to an American rock strand between alternative rock, post-grunge and pop rock, characterized by melodic guitars, straightforward songwriting and a strong emphasis on choruses and ballads. Lifehouse emerged at the turn of the 2000s with No Name Face (2000), driven by the single “Hanging by a Moment”, and followed with Stanley Climbfall (2002), Lifehouse (2005), Who We Are (2007), Smoke & Mirrors (2010), Almería (2012) and Out of the Wasteland (2015). Across these records, Lifehouse’s sound shifted from a fairly taut post-grunge rock toward a more adult-pop–oriented approach, while retaining its band identity. The group’s trajectory has also been marked by several lineup changes: Jason Wade remained the constant, joined long-term by drummer Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. and then bassist Bryce Soderberg, before guitarist Steve Stout arrived. Active on North American rock and pop stages for more than two decades, Lifehouse also released the EP Goodbye Kanan in 2021, before announcing a hiatus that same year.
