Pain of Truth

Born on Long Island in New York State, Pain of Truth sits in the continuum of the heaviest New York hardcore, with a sound at the crossroads of tough-guy hardcore, beatdown and groove‑driven metalcore. The band formed in 2020 around vocalist Michael Smith after the end of Hangman, initially in the form of the demo No Blame… Just Facts released the same year, before settling into a full lineup. From its early days, Pain of Truth combines compact riffs, heavy tempos, marked mosh parts and phrasing sometimes fueled by hip-hop sensibility, in an aesthetic that recalls certain branches of 1990s hardcore without veering into pastiche. The band quickly circulated on the American scene, sharing bills with Drain, Terror, Gulch, Kublai Khan TX or Life of Agony, then appearing at identified stops on the hardcore circuit such as Black N Blue Bowl, This Is Hardcore and Sound and Fury. After a split EP with Age of Apocalypse in 2021, Pain of Truth released its first album, Not Through Blood, in 2023. The band’s trajectory was then extended by tours in the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States and Australia, in a register that remains faithful to a frontal, dense and physical writing.
