BENEE
Born in Auckland in 2000, New Zealand singer BENEE, whose real name is Stella Rose Bennett, emerged in the late 2010s on an independent online pop scene that blends indie pop, bedroom pop and touches of R&B. After several tracks released on platforms, Benee drew attention with the single 'Soaked' in 2018, which paved the way for two EPs released in 2019, 'Fire on Marzz' and 'Stella & Steve', marked by light productions, supple bass lines and a nonchalant vocal delivery. The song 'Supalonely', a 2019 duet with Gus Dapperton, gave Benee international visibility and allowed her to step up touring outside New Zealand. The 2020 album 'Hey U X' collects this hybrid sound between alternative pop and subtle electronic influences, while featuring selected collaborations with anglophone pop and hip‑hop artists. Benee followed with the EP 'Lychee' in 2022, where her writing moved toward more introspective tracks with moderate tempos and repetitive melodies. Between club shows, festivals and a continued online presence, Benee has developed a career in which visual aesthetic, personal lyrics and a melancholic yet accessible pop remain closely linked.
