Ritt Momney
Ritt Momney is a project led by American musician Jack Rutter. It began in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the mid-2010s as a high-school band before becoming the singer’s solo project when the other members left. The music falls within indie pop and bedroom pop, featuring piano and synth-driven songs, fragile vocals and deliberately spare productions that blend indie rock, electronic pop and intimate folk influences. The project gained attention on Salt Lake City’s local scene and online, propelled by songs addressing religious doubt, romantic relationships and coming of age, often related to Rutter’s experience within the Mormon community. Ritt Momney self-released the album “Her and All of My Friends” in 2019, which established this lo-fi, introspective aesthetic, and followed it with “Sunny Boy” in 2021, marked by more pop-oriented structures and brighter arrangements. The cover of Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On,” released as a single in 2020, greatly expanded Ritt Momney’s audience and led to tours of independent venues across North America, where the project honed a repertoire that oscillates between melancholic ballads and faster-tempo alternative pop.
