Ultra Vomit
Formed in Nantes in the late 1990s, Ultra Vomit made its mark on the French metal scene with a project that blends death metal, grindcore, heavy metal, and overtly parodic humour. The band quickly embraced a French-language repertoire built on subverting extreme metal codes, nods to popular culture, and a pronounced taste for stylistic pastiche, ranging from breakneck punk to heavier anthems. After several demos, Ultra Vomit released its first full-length, “M. Patate,” in 2004, still firmly rooted in grindcore, followed by “Objectif: Thunes” in 2008, which opened the songwriting to more melodic structures and broader references to the history of rock and metal. A new milestone came with “Panzer Surprise!” in 2017, where Ultra Vomit pushed the play with genres even further, alternating very short tracks, pastiches of popular hits, and variations on different metal subgenres. Built on a lean lineup centered around vocals that alternate between growls, screams, and clean singing, Ultra Vomit has forged its reputation primarily on stage, stringing together club tours and specialist festivals such as Hellfest and Motocultor, and has established itself over the years as a benchmark for the humorous and parodic side of Francophone metal.
