Didier Super
Between punk song and comedy show, Didier Super has developed since the early 2000s a project on the border between music and one‑man‑show. Born in 1973 in Douai, northern France, as Olivier Haudegond, he fits into a tradition of corrosive French chanson, with deliberately crude lyrics, an affected vocal delivery and minimalist rock arrangements that sometimes incorporate reggae or a subverted sentimental ballad. Didier Super drew attention on alternative stages and small festivals before expanding his tours solo and later with an electric band presented as a 'groupe discount', playing on the contrast between an intentionally amateur image and highly crafted songwriting. His discography notably includes the albums 'Vaut mieux en rire que s’en foutre' (2004), 'Vaut mieux en rire que s’en foutre, vol. 2' (2006), 'Didier Super et son groupe discount' (2008) and 'La merde des autres' (2011), all of which continue the same principle of social satire and controlled provocation. Alongside his records, Didier Super stages numerous shows mixing songs, sketches and improvisation, performed in both concert halls and theatres, and he relies heavily on video and social networks to broadcast his songs and characters.
