Altin Gün
Formed in Amsterdam in the mid‑2010s, Altın Gün brings together Dutch bassist Jasper Verhulst and musicians of Turkish and Dutch origin who reinterpret Anatolian folk and rock heritage. The band draws on traditional songs and compositions from the 1960s and 1970s, rearranged with psychedelic guitars, a funk groove, prominent keyboards and rhythms sometimes bordering on disco, while retaining Turkish vocals and saz or bağlama lines. Initially noticed on the European independent scene—particularly through performances in clubs and festivals oriented toward psych rock and global music—the project gradually established itself on an international touring circuit between Europe, Turkey and North America. The discography includes the albums On (2018) and Gece (2019), released on several independent labels and nominated for a Grammy in a world music category, followed by Yol (2021), Âlem (2021, released digitally) and Aşk (2023), which continue to balance reinterpretations of Anatolian standards with original compositions, placing increasing emphasis on keyboards and electronic textures within a live‑focused framework.
