Ayyuka
Formed in Eskişehir in 2001 before settling in Istanbul, Ayyuka creates a rock that blends Anatolian rock, surf, funk, punk and elements of improvisation. The band has a distinct taste for repetitive rhythms, taut guitars and motifs drawn from Turkish popular music. Ayyuka first drew attention in 2003 with a third-place finish at the Battle of the Bands at Bosphorus University, opened for Sonic Youth and Jonathan Richman, and has played stages and festivals in Turkey and abroad, notably in Berlin, Paris, Lyon and São Paulo. Their debut album, Ayyuka, was released in 2007, followed by Kiracı Odaları in 2013. With Sömestr (2015) Ayyuka shifted to a fully instrumental format and invited Orlando Julius on two tracks, accentuating the Afrobeat openness already present in their writing. Maslak Halayı (2019) broadened the spectrum further by incorporating references to traditional forms and regional dances, while the EP Zaman Ziyan (2024) continues this dialogue between rock tension, groove and Anatolian heritage.
