Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles

Founded by Brooklyn keyboardist and singer Cory Henry after his stint with the collective Snarky Puppy, Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles develops a sound that blends funk, soul, gospel and touches of contemporary jazz. Around Cory Henry, the group brings together a core of musicians experienced on international stages, featuring a rhythm section focused on groove, prominent keyboards and multi-part vocal arrangements. The band first made its mark live, through long improvised sets that extend the legacy of 1970s African-American music while rooting it in present-day R&B. This direction took shape on the 2018 album Art of Love, where the group explores songs built on repetitive bass lines, gospel-tinged harmonies and expansive keyboard solos. Alongside Cory Henry’s work as a studio musician and frequent collaborator, Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles remains his primary live laboratory, with a constantly evolving repertoire and a strong emphasis on live rearrangements.
